Small Things Matter

While having coffee after an early lunch today (as I had to be on time for my 1:00 PM appointment), we paired it with piaya—something we suddenly missed.
I ate two pieces and was so happy with the thin crust and rich muscovado sugar filling. It was perfect with my very black coffee.

But when it was my daughter’s turn to eat her piece, she was disappointed. The crust was thicker. She even commented, “Siguro ga-tsismisanay ni sila sang gina-ubra ni nila ay.” (“Maybe they were gossiping while making this.”)
She was referring to the workers in the piaya factory. BOOM!
See? Even from outside the factory, one can tell the inconsistency in the output of an organization’s human resources.
Often, these are the little things we overlook. But when not addressed proactively, they can become like termites—quietly destroying the house from within until it collapses. And when that happens, everyone suffers: the customer, the employees, the employer, the suppliers, even the suppliers’ employees—every stakeholder.
I’m not claiming to be an expert here, but we all need to validate the processes in our organizations. Doing so helps minimize costs, maximize profits, and prevent redundancies.
A healthy working environment doesn’t need to be policed 24/7. It can be cultivated. And oftentimes, a neutral outsider—someone who sees things objectively—can be a great help.
Let us know—because at JDD MCS, we’re more than happy to be of service: one organization at a time, one community at a time… until we change the world.
Oh, and by the way—this is also one of the many hats I wear: business process analyst—a role I’ve been passionate about for more than twenty years now.
